IMpasse Privacy/Security System Encryption
Take Your Public IM Conversations Out Of "The Clear"
IMpasse's Privacy/Security System Encryption platform encrypts messages sent via AOL's AIM, MSN Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger. IMpasse automatically encrypts and decrypts conversations using 448 bit CBC mode Blowfish encryption. It also protects file exchanges via the public IM networks with 3072 bit modulus RSA encryption.
There's one minor catch, though -- people on both sides of the IM conversation need to have IMpasse installed on their PCs for the encryption to work. If only one person is using IMpasse, then the messaging session is "in the clear."
By using the system, IMpasse says sensitive corporate and personal communications are protected from public view, and are not vulnerable to being intercepted. IMpasse also protects users from the storage of messages by a service provider, the company said.
IMpasse also works with AIM, MSN Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger when the Trillian client is used, but manual configuration is required. In its native form, Trillian encrypts conversations held only on the AIM network.
